Hearing aid domes are the soft, disposable earpieces that are placed on the hearing aid’s speaker or thin tube to allow it to fit comfortably in the ear. Sometimes, you will need to remove the dome to clean it, change your hearing aid wax filter, or replace your old dome with a new one.

For different manufacturer models, the steps involved in changing hearing aid domes may vary slightly.1 Here are the basic steps for changing your hearing aid domes yourself at home. If you need assistance changing your hearing aid domes, please call us on 0800 569 152 or Live Chat with an Audika Customer Service Representative, available weekdays from 9am - 5pm (AEDST).

How to replace your hearing aid dome2

  1. Hold onto the speaker/thin tube with your finger and thumb on one hand, and gently pinch the soft dome with your finger and thumb on the other hand.
  2. Gently pull the dome and speaker/thin tube in opposite directions until the dome is completely removed.
  3. Pick up your new dome and align the speaker/thin tube directly to the middle of the inside of the new dome.
  4. Push the new dome firmly onto the speaker/thin tube to ensure it is fastened securely.

Important notice2

The dome is made of a soft material. If the dome comes off in the ear canal, it is unlikely to cause any harm. If you can, carefully take it out. If necessary, let another person help you. Do not push the dome into the ear canal. Do not push the tube into the ear again before the dome is removed from the ear. If you have any doubts about how to proceed if the dome comes off, contact your hearing care specialist or physician.

Signs you need to replace your hearing aid dome

  • Your current dome is damaged or worn. Hearing aid domes need to be replaced sometimes due to everyday wear and tear. If your hearing aid dome is damaged or worn, it is time to replace it with a new one.
  • Your current dome has become loose. If your current hearing aid dome is loose, this could be a sign that it’s damaged. A replacement dome that fits securely onto your hearing aid speaker/thin tube is necessary.
